My name is Hugo Borg, a 34-year-old Frenchman passionate about travel and adventure. For several years, I had a dream: to walk in the footsteps of the Incas and discover one of the greatest wonders of the world, Machu Picchu. After months of research, I decided to fulfill this dream with the travel agency Flyonnet IPT. Their reputation, organization, and attention to detail convinced me. The Inca Trail, a four-day trek through the majestic Andes Mountains, awaited me!
The first day started with an early wake-up in Cusco. At 5 am, a minibus from Flyonnet IPT came to pick me up at my hotel. The driver, Carlos, was punctual and warm, just like the other team members. After a quick equipment check, we headed towards the famous km 82, the official starting point of the Inca Trail. The excitement grew as we approached the beginning of this great adventure.
We barely crossed the suspension bridge over the Urubamba River when the adventure truly began. The first section of the Inca Trail took us through lush valleys and mysterious ruins. Soon we reached the archaeological site of Llactapata, where our expert guide, Ricardo, took the time to explain the historical importance of the place. The view was breathtaking, and it was just the beginning. The first day ended at our campsite, where a delicious meal prepared by the trek chef awaited us.
The second day was by far the most difficult, but also the most rewarding. We climbed the daunting Dead Woman's Pass (Warmiwañusca), located at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet). The ascent was steep, and the high altitude made breathing more difficult. But Ricardo, our guide, encouraged us at every step and gave us tips on how to handle the altitude. Thanks to him and the perfect organization of Flyonnet IPT, we reached the summit by late morning. The panoramic view of the Andes was simply spectacular.
After taking photos and enjoying the summit, we began the descent to the Pacaymayo campsite. The descent was almost as challenging as the ascent, with steep stone steps. However, the flawless organization of the agency made everything easier. Our tents were already set up when we arrived, and the porters, true heroes of the trek, had already prepared a hot snack.
The third day was more relaxed. We visited the mysterious ruins of Runkurakay and Sayacmarca, two impressive sites nestled in the heart of the mountains. These places breathed history and the sacred atmosphere of the ancient Incas. Ricardo told us the legends associated with these places, adding a mystical touch to our adventure.
The path on the third day led us through endless Inca stone steps. But every step was worth it. As we progressed, the view of the Urubamba Valley became increasingly majestic. The sun was setting when we reached the site of Phuyupatamarca, "the city above the clouds".
After a good night's rest, we headed towards Wiñay Wayna, one of the last stops before Machu Picchu. This site is undoubtedly one of the most impressive on the Inca Trail, with its imposing agricultural terraces and well-preserved temples.
The fourth day finally arrived, the day we would discover Machu Picchu. We got up before dawn and walked in the dark to the famous Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Upon arrival, the sun was slowly rising behind the mountains, gradually revealing Machu Picchu below us.
We spent the day exploring Machu Picchu, guided by Ricardo, who explained every detail of this mysterious city. The site was larger and more impressive than I had imagined. After taking hundreds of photos, we had free time to explore on our own.
I cannot thank Flyonnet IPT enough for this unforgettable experience. Everything, from beginning to end, was perfectly organized. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, the meals were delicious, and the campsites were always ready when we arrived.
If I were to recommend an agency for this trek, it would undoubtedly be Flyonnet IPT. Every detail was meticulously planned. The meals, prepared on-site, were far beyond my expectations.
There were so many unforgettable moments during this trek. I think back to the difficult ascent of Dead Woman's Pass, the first view of Machu Picchu at the Sun Gate, and the evenings under the stars.
The return to Cusco was filled with nostalgia. After spending so many days walking together, it was difficult to say goodbye to our guide Ricardo and the porters.
If you dream of walking the Inca Trail and discovering Machu Picchu, I cannot recommend Flyonnet IPT enough. The agency made this adventure perfect in every way.
